Forefront Server Security Solution

Continuing the topic of discussion on Forefront, this time I'll go to the Forefront Solutions for Application Server. Just for reference the previous link about Forefront I wrote on the blog:

Before entering the core of the discussion, we first flashback history of Forefront Server Security Solution. Especially for this one, the solution was formerly called Antigen Forefront Solution, which is Microsoft Antigen products. Previous antigen is a product issued by Sybari, but because it was very superior product, then in mid 2005, Microsoft acquired this product, so munculah that replaces the Microsoft Antigen 9.0 Sybari Antigen 8.0. This product is divided into 4 parts, namely the Microsoft Antigen for Exchange, Microsoft Antigen for Sharepoint, Microsoft Antigen for Instant Messaging (then LCS 2005), and Microsoft Antigen Enterprise Manager.

Now as the development of these products, so to adjust to the new product concept, then Microsoft released the Microsoft Forefront Server Security Solution as the next generation of Microsoft Antigen Solution. By product, which is included in Microsoft Forefront Server Security Solution is:

   1. Microsoft Forefront for Exchange 2007
   2. Microsoft Forefront for Sharepoint 2007
   3. Microsoft Forefront Server Security Management Console (still in Public Beta Version)
   4. Microsoft Forefront for Office Communications Server 2007 (will of release in Beta soon)

Microsoft Forefront for Exchange Server 2007 is the Antivirus solution for Microsoft Exchange Server 2007, where the advantages of Microsoft Antigen maintained since the Multi Engines in One Platform. In Microsoft Forefront for Exchange, with 9 Engines are available and can be run in parallel, 5 engines, then we can apply the solution to the Multi Layered defense in an efficient and economical. Besides functioning ward off viruses that come via email, these products also have the ability to do filtering on the Keyword and File. Keyword filtering is filtering to the words that may be included in the category of spam and words that may not deserve to be written in a business email. File filtering is the filter of the files that are not allowed to enter into our mail server, can we define it here by extension, size, inbound or outbound, a compressed file and header file extension. Then, what about spam? ... Because this product is a collaboration with Exchange 2007, Anti-Spam is integrated directly on the Exchange 2007 IMF namely version 3.0. Anti spam IMF 3.0 was developed from existing IMF in Exchange 2003 is version 2.0, but with added features such as Quarantine spam, Sender Open Proxy Test and Confidence.

Microsoft Forefront for Sharepoint 2007 is the antivirus solution for Microsoft Office Sharepoint 2007. These products also continue to use the Multi Engines solution. The main goal of Forefront for Sharepoint is to do the scanning for viruses at the time we are allowed to upload or download documents from Sharepoint Portal. In terms of management, also spelled simplified, as Forefront for Exchange. In addition to the virus scanning, we can also scan the body of the keywords on office documents uploaded or downloaded.

Microsoft Forefront Server Security Management Console is a development of previous products is the Microsoft Antigen Enterprise Manager. This product allows you to do maintenance and management of products, Forefront Server Security Solution centralized (centralized). Imagine, if within our existing infrastructure solutions in the Forefront Exchange, Sharepoint and spread across multiple servers, we certainly need a management that is focused and practical. Last, Microsoft Forefront for Office Communications Server 2007 is a product Antivirus for OCS 2007. Currently, this product is not yet in Beta release for her, considering OCS 2007 has just launched not long ago. However, I predict, the system will not be much different working with Microsoft Antigen for Instant Messaging (LCS 2005). In addition to support for multi-engines, this product can perform filtering of files, and also keywords.
